Hello all,
The beginning of February marks the beginning of Black History Month. This year the theme of the month is A Century of Black History Commemorations, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the first Black History Week all the way back in 1926. This month is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of all people of African descent across fields, but in our case especially literature. To celebrate you will find our Suggested Reading for this month is full of titles by Black authors across age groups and genres.Â
Love is in the air! This year we're celebrating love and friendship with a special story time with children's book author and veterinarian, Natalie Vázquez Rosa. She will be reading her very own book,Harvey y su gran mudanza / Harvey's Big Move, a bilingual children's book that tells the story of Harvey, a cute corgi who moves from Virginia to Puerto Rico, and all the new lessons he learns.Â
Join us next Saturday, February 14, 2026 for a story time narrated by the author and stop to say hello to Harvey yourself! We will have copies of the book available for purchase and be sure to get your own personalized pawprint from Harvey. Story time starts at 1:00pm, but stop by starting at 11:00am for craft time making friendship bracelets, our $5 bag sale, or grab a book from our Blind Date with a Book section. Free lunch & donuts included!
Spaces are still available for Saturday art classes with Maestra Cuca! Classes are held on Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Open to all children ages 8-13. For more information, please text or call Cuca directly at (787) 633-5787.
Ever wanted to learn to play chess? Consider stopping by for our informal Saturday chess meetings. Open to children and adults of all ages! Meetings start on Saturdays at 11:00am.
Wishing you all a lovely week from our library family to yours.
