Hello all,

This summer went by in the blink of an eye. It's hard to believe it's already August, but it also seems like the perfect time to celebrate the beginning of a new term.

Mark your calendars! Our annual Back to School Book Fest returns on Saturday, August 22, 2026. This year we are partnering with Sparks Lab, a non-profit organization founded and led by Lorena Pachiardi, to bring a new specialized series of interactive STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) workshops to San Juan Community Library.

By integrating literature and hands on exposure to concepts like circuits, coding, and robotics in an accessible and fun format, these workshops are the perfect opportunity to spark a new curiosity for STEAM. Available for all children, ages 7+. Free of charge!

If you'd like to participate in our STEAM Workshops, please pre-register here.

Alongside the STEAM workshops, we will also be hosting a story time of the book, La niña del maletín azul. This inspiring book is a fantastic opportunity to continue fostering an interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as it tells the true story of a Puerto Rican girl whose curiosity, perseverance, and love of learning led her to become a scientist. Story time starts at 12:00pm!

Starting at 10:30am, we will be having a $5 Bag Sale, meaning our entire sales section will be on sale at $5 for a bag full of books. Bags for the sale will be available on site or you may bring your own.

Additionally, stop by to learn more about fine amnesty. No matter how big or small, simply stop by the library and we will clear those fines for you at no charge. This offer is available one day only! Finally, we will have 10 Blast From the Past membership renewals available. For only $2, you can renew your membership for an entire year! Note: Your account must be clear of fines to be eligible for this special offer.

With the success of our Summer Sumi-e Workshops, we are very excited to announce our new Fall sessions! The enthusiasm for these workshops has been remarkable so this time around we would like to offer two levels of this popular workshop.

We will still offer two more beginner (Level 1) workshops, as well as two new advanced (Level 2) workshops. These Level 2 Workshops will allow participants to continue nurturing their ink painting skills while using a contemporary approach to the craft. Level 2 workshops will require prior experience. The dates available are as follows:

August 29, 2026: Level 2

September 12, 2026: Level 1

September 26, 2026: Level 2

October 10, 2026, 2026: Level 1

All workshops run from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. We only have a limited number of spots for the workshops, so make sure to secure your spot! The workshops have a price of $25 per person, which includes all materials necessary and the price of the class. Open to ages 13 and up.

To secure your spot, please email us at info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org and include your name, phone number, and which session you would like to participate in.

Wishing you all a lovely week from our library family to yours!!
