Saturday story time at your library

Hello all,

Harvey's back! Join us on Saturday, June 6, 2026 for story time with our beloved friends, author, Natalie Vázquez and her dog, Harvey. Stop by to listen to a new story and special activity afterwards. Story time starts at 12:30pm, with a complimentary snack at 12 pm. Open to all children, ages 2-9. 

The library will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026 in observance of Memorial Day. You can read Ebooks and audiobooks on our online catalog on Libby at any moment. Additionally, you can return your books whenever you like through the green mailbox by the library entrance. As customary, fines will not be accumulated on this day. 

With June just around the corner, we're gearing up for our 2026 Summer Reading Contest! Summertime reading is that special time of year where we encourage our youngest readers to read books that speak to them for the summer. Every book you read and complete one of our activities from our Supersonic activity sheets earns you one ticket good for our raffle. For every five books you read, you will also get a sticker to mark each milestone. At the end of the 6 weeks, we will be raffling two reading tablets and two gift cards for books. Open to all children, ages 2-18. 

Looking to learn about a new art style this summer? Take the first steps to learning Sumi-e (Ink Painting) with Alejandra Nanishi! Sumi-e is a traditional Japanese monochromatic art style that seeks to capture the essence of nature with simple, fluid and intentional lines.

In this workshop you will:

• Learn the fundamentals of ink painting. 

  
  

• Explore a contemporary approach to Sumi-e.

  
  

• Connect with Puerto Rican nature as a source of inspiration.

  
  

• Develop tools to continue practicing at your own pace. 

  
  

The workshop consists of one class on Saturday, June 27, 2026 running from 11:00am to 1:00pm and has a cost of $25, which covers the cost of the class as well as all the materials needed. Open to all participants, 13 and up. To separate your space, send us an email to info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org with the participant's name, and a contact number.

You do not need any prior experience, simply the desire to create and explore!
