Hello all,

To close out the month, we have new eBooks and audiobooks available on Libby! This June we are celebrating Pride Month, a month-long commemoration of the contributions of LGBTQIA+ people to our culture and history. This upcoming Sunday, June 28 is actually the 57th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, the series of protests and demonstrations which were a landmark for queer rights and liberation. The first pride parade was celebrated a year later in 1970 across multiple cities in the Unites States to commemorate Stonewall. If you want to learn more about the Stonewall Uprising, you can check out The Stonewall Reader from Libby, a collection of first accounts, diaries, periodic literature, and articles from LGBTQ magazines and newspapers from the New York Public Library's Archives' that documents both the years leading up to and the years following Stonewall.

This Saturday! Stop by San Juan Community Library for a surprise $5 bag sale. Fill up a plastic shopping bag with books for $5 per bag. Our entire sales section will be up for grabs! You can bring your own bag, but we will also have additional bags onsite. Starting at 11:00am.

July closures: The library will be closed on Saturday, July 4, 2026 in celebration of the Fourth of July as well as from Thursday, July 16, 2026 to Sunday, July 26, 2026 for Summer Break. As always, you can enjoy from our catalog of eBooks and audiobooks on Libby as well as stream a multitude of movies, documentaries and television shows on Kanopy. If you have any additional questions about our July closures, please call the library at (787) 789-4600 or send us an email to info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org.

Registration open until July! This summer it's time to super power your reading! San Juan Community Library's annual Summer Reading Contest is that special time of the year where we encourage our youngest readers to seek out books that "speak to their hearts" and participate in a friendly competition. Here's how it works:

1. Sign up at the volunteer desk and take home some of our Supersonic Activity Sheets.

2. Pick a book to read.

3. After reading, select and complete one of the activities from the activity sheets.

4. Hand in your Activity Sheets to one of our library volunteers before Saturday, July 11, 2026. For every book read, readers receive one ticket good for our raffle at the end of the contest.

5. For every five books read, readers will receive a sticker to mark the milestone. We will also have a sticker sheet available to collect your stickers.

At the end of the 6 weeks, we will be raffling two reading tablets and two gift cards from a bookstore.  Open to all children, ages 2-18. If you have any additional questions, you can email us at info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org or call the library at (787) 789-4600 to speak with a volunteer. Good luck and happy reading!

Did you hear? San Juan Community Library memberships now include access to Kanopy. Kanopy is a free, on-demand video streaming service with a catalog of more than 30,000 films from suppliers such as The Criterion Collection, BBC, NEON, A24, Samuel Goldwyn Films, HISTORY, A&E, IFC Films, and many more. Instead of paying for a subscription, you simply create an account using your library card to stream thousands of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and more!

Included in Kanopy's extensive collection is Kanopy Kids, a dedicated section with ad-free, education, and age-appropriate programming for children, including animated stories, early learning content, STEM videos, and literary adaptations.

How does it work?

Kanopy offers a ticket-based system, which will allow you to stream a select number of titles each month. Each month you will receive 25 tickets from the library for free to stream from Kanopy's collection. Movies and TV shows are available at varying ticket levels. If you're on desktop, you will find your current number of tickets on the top right corner. Tickets do not move over to the next month if you have not used them.

Kanopy's collection is updated monthly, meaning some titles may leave while others will be added like other streaming services so you can expect to see new titles and to rediscover older gems. The only exception is Kanopy Kids, which offers unlimited access to all of its content.

How to Create Your Kanopy Account:

1. Install the Kanopy app on your device or visit Kanopy.com. Click the Get Started button or Create a New Account.

2. Select Find Your Library. Search for San Juan Community Library on the search bar. Once you find San Juan Community Library, you can click on the Select this Library button on the map.

3. Type in your library card number (Reminder: Your library card number is your phone number without the area code.)

4. Finish creating your account. Kanopy will ask you for a name, email address, and password to set up your account.

5. Start streaming from Kanopy's vast collection!

Kanopy is available on Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV as well as mobile devices, tablets, and desktop and laptop browsers. If you have any additional questions, email us directly at info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org. Welcome to the summer of Kanopy!

Wishing you all a lovely week from our library family to yours.
