New dates for Sumi-e Workshop at San Juan Community Library

Hello all,

Announcing new dates for our Ink Painting Workshops (Sumi-e) with Puerto Rican artist, Alejandra Nanishi! Sumi-e is a traditional Japanese monochromatic art style that seeks to capture the essence of nature with simple, fluid and intentional lines.

In this workshop you will:

·                 Learn the fundamentals of ink painting. 

·                 Explore a contemporary approach to Sumi-e.

·                 Connect with Puerto Rican nature as a source of inspiration.

·                 Develop tools to continue practicing at your own pace. 

The workshop consists of one class running from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm and has a cost of $25, which covers the cost of the class as well as all the materials needed. We have two sessions available for June: Saturday, June 6, 2026 and Saturday, June 27, 2026. Open to all participants, 13 and up. To separate your space, send us an email to info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org with the participant's name, a contact number, and the session you wish to sign up for. You do not need any prior experience, simply a want to create and explore!

This Saturday! It's time to celebrate National Library Week! National Library Week is a time to celebrate the many ways libraries bring people together, spark imagination, and support lifelong learning. This year, the theme is "Find Your Joy", a theme that highlights the many different ways libraries are enriching centers for our communities.  

Story time will start at 12:30 pm with author, Lizette Martínez who will share her children's book, Mis cuentos del mar, a story highlighting the importance of caring for our planet, especially our oceans.  Stop by the library and participate in our Library Treasure Hunt, where children of all ages must deduce the answer to our riddles to find the next clue, collecting stickers along the way. The five contestants who complete the treasure hunt in the fastest time will win a $25 gift card. Prefer art to riddles? Stop by our art table and let your creativity run wild! Help us cover our library with your beautiful drawings. Think you can guess how much candy is a jar? Give us your best guess as part of our Candy Guessing Game. The closest answer will receive a lifetime membership to our library. 

You can also expect our monthly $5 bag sale. All books in our sales section are eligible. Finally, our Blast From the Past memberships make their long-awaited return. This year we will be offering 10 membership renewals at $2 (the price of our memberships when the library opened almost 40 years ago). Remember to arrive early to claim yours! Complimentary lunch will be served at noon.
