Hello all,
This week our 2026 Summer Reading Contest officially drew to a close. We are immensely grateful to all of our readers, who this year read a combined 429 books. Taking all of our participants into accounts, that's 13 books read per reader, a fantastic achievement for the summer!
Congratulations to our winners as well as all of our readers this year! You are all winners in our books. Thank you for welcoming the joy of summer reading into your homes. We look forward to having you again next year for our celebratory edition of our Summer Reading Contest in honor of the library's 40th anniversary as well as our contest's 24th edition.
July closures: Reminder! The library is closed starting this Thursday, July 16, 2026 until Sunday, July 26, 2026 for Summer Break. As always, you can enjoy from our catalog of eBooks and audiobooks on Libby as well as stream a multitude of movies, documentaries and television shows on Kanopy. This month we've added some new audiobooks just in time to listen to during the break like Luis Rafael's Sanchez's classic, La guaracha del Macho Camacho in honor for its 50th anniversary. If you have any additional questions about our July closures, please send us an email to info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org.
Did you hear? San Juan Community Library memberships now include access to Kanopy. Kanopy is a free, on-demand video streaming service with a catalog of more than 30,000 films from suppliers such as The Criterion Collection, BBC, NEON, A24, Samuel Goldwyn Films, HISTORY, A&E, IFC Films, and many more. Instead of paying for a subscription, you simply create an account using your library card to stream thousands of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and more!
Included in Kanopy's extensive collection is Kanopy Kids, a dedicated section with ad-free, education, and age-appropriate programming for children, including animated stories, early learning content, STEM videos, and literary adaptations.
How does it work?
Kanopy offers a ticket-based system, which will allow you to stream a select number of titles each month. Each month you will receive 25 tickets from the library for free to stream from Kanopy's collection. Movies and TV shows are available at varying ticket levels. If you're on desktop, you will find your current number of tickets on the top right corner. Tickets do not move over to the next month if you have not used them.
Kanopy's collection is updated monthly, meaning some titles may leave while others will be added like other streaming services so you can expect to see new titles and to rediscover older gems. The only exception is Kanopy Kids, which offers unlimited access to all of its content.
How to Create Your Kanopy Account:
1. Install the Kanopy app on your device or visit Kanopy.com. Click the Get Started button or Create a New Account.
2. Select Find Your Library. Search for San Juan Community Library on the search bar. Once you find San Juan Community Library, you can click on the Select this Library button on the map.
3. Type in your library card number (Reminder: Your library card number is your phone number without the area code.)
4. Finish creating your account. Kanopy will ask you for a name, email address, and password to set up your account.
5. Start streaming from Kanopy's vast collection!
Kanopy is available on Apple TV, Roku, Fire TV, Android TV as well as mobile devices, tablets, and desktop and laptop browsers. If you have any additional questions, email us directly at info@yourlibrarysanjuan.org. Welcome to the summer of Kanopy!
Wishing you all have a spectacular summer.
