Hello all,

Power Up With Reading 2025: As October draws to an end, we're gearing up to celebrate Children's Book Week! Launched in 1919, Children's Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the United States. This year's anchor is bestselling and award-winning author and illustrator, Dav Pilkey, best known for creating book series like Dog Man and Captain Underpants

The Dog Man series celebrates creativity and imagination and explores universally positive messages including the importance of doing good, empathy, and compassion. As part of this year's Power Up With Reading celebration, we want to see your comic creations. Imagine a new Dog Man story and create your very own comic about it!

Whether you want to use characters from the Dog Man series, or make your own story in the Dog Man world, let your imagination loose! Once your comic is complete, make sure to hand it in to one of our volunteers during Children's Book Week in order to participate in the raffle. All participants will be entered for the chance to win 1 of 5 Dav Pilkey books.

All children up to age 18 can compete. Remember to hand in your comic between November 3-8, 2025 for your submission to count towards the raffle!

Saturday Art Classes: Announcing new slots for our Saturday art classes with Maestra Cuca are open! Classes are held on Saturday from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Open to children 8-13. For more information, please text or call Cuca directly at (787) 633-5787.

Day of the Character: This Saturday! Day of the Character is finally here! Come to the library for a day of fall festivities dressed up as your favorite character from literature, movies, television, or history. Starting at 11:00am we will begin our festivities with story time with our wonderful storyteller, Lizette, followed by craft time and face painting for children. From 11:30am-1:30pm, sign up to get your very own portrait in your costume done by a caricature artist. To sign up for a single portrait, we will ask for a $10 donation to the library and $15 for a group portrait. There are limited spots, so be sure to sign up early!

Starting at noon, get your very own custom poem made for you in the moment. Stay until 2:00pm for our special raffle. The winner of the children's raffle will win a free family membership for a year while the adult's raffle winner will take home a free lifetime membership. Last but not least, like all our activities our sales section will be on flash sale until closing at 3:00pm. Fill up a shopping bag full of books for only $5 a bag.
